What's on the Departments PTD vs report?

The Departments PTD vs report compares each department's sales for a period against the same period last year, with color-coded difference cells. When a single period is selected, the report shows the exact This year and Last year date ranges being compared under the page heading (the Day and WTD comparisons go back 52 weeks so the same weekdays line up).

Customize your Departments PTD vs report

  • Period: — pick All (a Day, WTD, MTD, QTD, YTD, and Custom row for each department), a single period (Day, WTD, MTD, QTD, or YTD), or Custom. For Custom, enter From: and To: dates; last year's figures cover the same dates one year earlier. Accounts whose fiscal year doesn't start in January also get an FYTD (fiscal year to date) option, and an FYTD row when Period is All.
  • Show: — choose what the colored difference cells display: Cell: absolute change (hover a cell to see the % change) or Cell: % change (hover a cell to see the absolute change). Your choice is remembered on that computer.
  • A division dropdown (All Divisions) appears when your account has more than one division; selecting a single division hides the Adjust $ column.
  • On multi-store accounts, a Choose store... selector (with Deselect and Select All buttons) lets you combine any set of stores.
  • Click View to run the report. The download icon at the top right saves the table as a CSV file.

Departments PTD vs table columns

  • Department — the department name
  • Period — which period the row covers (shown only when Period is All)
  • Qty TY / Qty LY / Qty Diff — items sold this year, last year, and the change
  • Sales $ TY / Sales $ LY / Sales $ Diff — sales dollars this year, last year, and the change
  • Sales % — the change in the department's percentage of total sales
  • Profit $ — the change in gross profit
  • Profit % — the change in the department's percentage of total profit
  • Margin — the change in gross margin percentage
  • Adjust $ — the change in inventory adjustment cost (hidden when a single division is selected)

When a single period is selected, a TOTAL row at the bottom compares the totals across all departments to last year.

Reading the colored difference cells

Each difference cell on the Departments PTD vs report is color-coded by the percent change versus last year:

  • Red — more than 10% below last year
  • Orange — 5–10% below last year
  • Yellow — up to 5% below last year
  • Green — more than 5% above last year

Tip

Hover over a difference cell to see the change in the other form — the % change when the cell shows the absolute change, or the absolute change when the cell shows the % (see the Show: dropdown).

Early in a week or month there isn't enough data for the comparison to be meaningful, so the colors are suppressed on the WTD row for the first three days of the week (they return on Thursday) and on the MTD row for the first six days of the month (they return on the 7th).
