Add to Wish List
Add a new Wish List request from a customer's account by selecting Customers, searching the customer's name, number, or address, selecting their account, selecting Wish List from the tabs at the top of the screen, and then clicking the "+ New Request" button.
Choosing an Item: Specific PLU vs. Department Only
When creating a request, you have two options for identifying the product:
Option 1: Enter a specific item number (PLU)
This is the preferred method whenever possible. When you attach a PLU to a request:
- The request ties into Purchase Orders — buyers see customer demand for that item when ordering
- The register will detect when the customer purchases the item and prompt the cashier to fulfill the request
- On Hand and On Order columns update automatically based on live inventory data
- The item appears in ordering reports as requested demand
If you enter a PLU, the department field will be automatically populated.
Option 2: Assign to a department only (no PLU)
Use this when the customer is requesting something you have never carried and there is no item number in your system. Enter the department and use the Notes field to describe what the customer wants.
Department-only requests will appear on the full Wish List page and the customer's profile, but they will not appear on Purchase Orders, trigger register prompts, or show in ordering reports. For this reason, use a specific PLU whenever one exists — even if the item is currently out of stock or out of season.
Tip
If a customer requests an item you don't carry but you later decide to bring it in and create a new item number, you can edit the request to add the PLU after the fact. This will immediately connect the request to all the PO and register integration.
Request Fields
- PLU — The item number, if known. Start typing to search.
- Department — Auto-filled when a PLU is entered, or manually selected for department-only requests.
- Quantity — How many the customer wants.
- Note — Any details or specifications from the customer (e.g., "needs blue flowers, not pink" or "for a wedding on May 15th").
- Next Step — The current status of the request. Set this to indicate what action needs to happen next.
- Follow-up Date — An optional date to remind staff to check on this request.
Items with Generic SKUs
Some products — such as packs, flats, or other items sold under a shared generic SKU — may not track inventory accurately at the individual item level. If your store receives these items into inventory but sells them as a generic (without deducting the specific SKU), be aware that the On Hand count for the specific item may not reflect reality. For these items, consider using a department-only request with a descriptive note, or work with your VMX representative to configure appropriate handling.
