Sales & Discounts
VMX has four separate ways to take money off a price, and picking the wrong one is the usual reason a sale "doesn't work". VMXpert can tell you which one you want, read back what you already have set up, and work out why something isn't discounting.
| You want | The feature |
|---|---|
| A sale on a group of items, for a date range | Promotion |
| One customer class's own price for an item | Price Level |
| Buy-one-get-one, or 5 for $10 | Price Rule |
| The customer has to hand something over | Coupon |
Ask in plain language:
- "What's on sale right now?"
- "Why isn't PLU 4471 ringing up at the sale price?"
- "What's the difference between a promotion and a price level?"
- "How do I set up buy one get one free?"
- "What did our spring sale cost us?"
Why something isn't discounting
This is the most common question, and there are a lot of quiet reasons. VMXpert checks them in order — whether the item really matches the promotion's filter, whether the start date is set, whether your customer class and store are selected, whether a coupon is required, and whether the item itself is marked as never discountable.
Two catch people out often:
- A promotion with no Start date never applies. It looks set up. It isn't.
- Deselecting "(No customer)" switches the promotion off for every walk-in sale — which is most of them.
What VMXpert can't change here
Automatic discounts by customer class — employee, military or landscaper pricing — and delivery fees are formulas, not settings, and they are handled separately. Loyalty and rewards, and deals that only run on your online shop, need VMX. VMXpert will tell you which of these you've hit rather than guess.
