Related Purchases
What the Related Purchases Report Shows
Reports → Customers → Related Purchases
The Related Purchases report answers "who bought this?" You pick one or more items (or whole departments) and a date range, and the report lists every customer who purchased them — with contact information, customer class, and how much they spent. It's built for targeted outreach: for example, pull everyone who bought roses last spring so you can email them about this year's rose care workshop, or find every customer who bought a grill so you can follow up when accessories arrive.
Only sales rung up with a customer attached appear — anonymous cash sales can't be matched to anyone.
If you don't see Related Purchases in the Reports sidebar, your login may not have permission to view it — report access is configured for your business by VMX; contact help@vmxllc.com.
Selecting Items, Departments, and Dates on the Related Purchases Report
- Set the date range in the From and To fields (mm/dd/yyyy; clicking a field opens a calendar picker). The report defaults to the last week.
- To search by item: type in the Item... box. Matching items appear as you type; select one to add it as a tag. You can add as many items as you like — the report re-runs automatically each time you add or remove a tag. Clicking an item tag opens that item's inventory page; use the tag's × to remove it instead.
- To search by department: use the department dropdown (it reads Choose... until you pick something). It lists each department, each sub-department as Department / Sub-department, and — for departments that have sub-departments — a Department / [None] entry for items in that department with no sub-department assigned. Selecting a department includes every item in it. You can combine department selections with individual item tags.
- Optionally narrow the customer list with the Filter dropdown: check Has Email, Has Phone, and/or Has Address to keep only customers with that contact information on file — handy when the whole point is reaching out to them.
- If you have more than one store, use the store selector (it reads Choose store...) to pick which stores' sales to include, with Select All and Deselect shortcuts. By default only your current store is included.
- Click View to run the report.
Reading the Related Purchases Columns
Each row of the Related Purchases report is one customer who bought at least one of the selected items in the date range:
- Number — the customer's account number, linked to their customer page.
- Name — the customer's name, also linked to their customer page.
- Company — the customer's company, if any.
- Phone — phone and cell phone on file.
- Email — email address on file.
- Class — the customer's class.
- Qty Sales — the total quantity of the selected items this customer purchased in the period (returns subtract).
- Item Sales — the dollars this customer spent on the selected items (returns subtract).
- Total Sales — spending that includes items outside your selection. This column can be blank or incomplete for some rows — rely on Item Sales for totals tied to the items you picked.
A totals row at the bottom sums Qty Sales, Item Sales, and Total Sales across all listed customers. Click any column header to sort the table.
Some clients also see address columns (Addr1, Addr2, City, State, Zip) on screen; that on-screen layout is enabled per-client by VMX — contact help@vmxllc.com. The CSV export includes the address fields for everyone (see the export section).
Exporting or Copying the Related Purchases List
- Click the download icon (above the top-right corner of the table) to download the results as a CSV file. The CSV includes everything on screen plus the customer's full mailing address (Address1, Address2, City, State, Zip) — so it's ready to use for a mailing list even though addresses may not appear in the on-screen table.
- Click the table icon next to it to select the whole on-screen table, ready to copy and paste into a spreadsheet or email.
The export respects whatever items, departments, dates, stores, and Has Email / Has Phone / Has Address filters are currently applied.
