Delivery Routes & Driver Printouts

Once delivery tickets are created (see Adding New Deliveries), the next job is getting them onto trucks and out the door. VMX can group tickets into Routes — an ordered list of stops assigned to a driver and truck — and produce driver paperwork: a printable route, a Google Maps QR code, and per-delivery ticket printouts.

Availability of delivery routing

Delivery routing (the Routes tab, the + Route button on the Tickets page, and the Route dropdown on delivery tickets) is enabled per-client by VMX. If you manage deliveries but don't see a Routes tab on the Deliveries page, contact help@vmxllc.com to discuss enabling it for your store. The Blackouts and Vehicles tabs are available to all stores.

Create a delivery route

A route is built from existing delivery tickets. To create one:

  1. Go to Deliveries (the Tickets tab).
  2. Check the box next to each delivery you want on the route. You can select from the Deliveries Today, Deliveries Scheduled, and Deliveries On Hold sections.
  3. Click + Route (top right of the page).
  4. The Create Routes screen opens: a map showing a pin for each selected delivery address (plus a flag for your store), with route panels on the right. All selected deliveries start in Route 1.
  5. To split the load between two trucks, drag addresses from Route 1 into Route 2. Pins on the map are color-coded by route (red for Route 1, blue for Route 2). Clicking an address in the list opens that stop's address bubble on the map.
  6. Pick a Truck and Driver for each route from the dropdowns.
  7. Click Optimize Route to have Google reorder the stops for the shortest drive. The map draws the driving route and the panel shows the total Distance (miles) and Duration. You can still drag stops to reorder them manually.
  8. Click Save. The panel is replaced with a View Route link — click it to open the finished route.

On the Tickets page, deliveries that are already on a route show with a grey background and a Route # link under their status, so you can see at a glance what's routed and what isn't.

View your delivery routes

The Routes tab on the Deliveries page lists all routes for your store, newest first, with:

  • ID — the route number (click it, or the View button, to open the route)
  • Driver and Truck
  • Status — a summary of the deliveries on the route, shown as count at the furthest-along status / total. For example, 3/5 Loaded means 3 of the route's 5 deliveries have reached Loaded. A route with no deliveries shows Empty.
  • Created By and Created When

Long lists are paged — use the « Newer and Older » buttons to move between pages.

Work a route: drivers, status updates, and the route printout

Open a route from the Routes tab (or from a Route # link on the Tickets page). The route page shows everything a dispatcher or driver needs:

  • Truck and Driver dropdowns — changing either saves immediately ("Route updated successfully").
  • Update All Status — sets the status of every delivery on the route in one step. You'll be asked to confirm: "This will change the status of all deliveries in this route to …". Click Update All to proceed. Use this when the truck leaves (Out for Delivery) or returns (Delivered).
  • Deliveries table — one row per stop, in route order, with the stop number, ticket link, delivery date and time, status, customer (with phone numbers), address, and the items on that ticket.
  • All Items table — a combined pick list totaled across the whole route: each product with its Quantity and how many Orders (tickets) it appears on. Use this to load the truck.
  • QR Code — scan it with a phone to open the full route in Google Maps: your store, each stop in order, and back to the store.
  • Delete Route — removes the route (the delivery tickets themselves are not deleted). You'll be asked to confirm Delete Route?.

Printing the route: use your browser's print function. Each column header on the Deliveries table has a checkbox — uncheck a column to leave it off the printout. The Stop and Status columns and the on-screen controls are left off the print automatically, and the QR code prints in the top corner so the driver can scan it from the paper.

Assign a single delivery to a route from its ticket

On a delivery ticket, the Route dropdown (shown for stores with routing enabled) lists existing routes by number and creation date. Pick one to add the delivery to that route, or Unassigned to take it off. The dropdown is highlighted in yellow when the delivery isn't on a route yet. Tickets also have their own Truck and Driver dropdowns for stores that assign trucks and drivers without building full routes.

Manage delivery vehicles

The Vehicles tab on the Deliveries page is where you maintain the list of delivery trucks that appears in the Truck dropdowns on tickets and routes.

  • Click + New Vehicle and enter the Vehicle Name to add a truck. A blank name is rejected: "Vehicle name is required."
  • Use the pencil icon on a vehicle's row to edit it, or the trash icon to delete it (you'll be asked "Are you sure you want to delete this vehicle?").
  • A vehicle that is assigned to routes can't be deleted — you'll see "This vehicle is assigned to N route(s) and cannot be deleted." Reassign or delete those routes first.

The Print Day page produces one printable page per delivery scheduled for a chosen date — a driver hand-out for the whole day. Each page includes:

  • The customer name, delivery number, truck, delivery time, and status
  • The delivery address and customer phone numbers
  • A Scan for directions QR code — the driver scans it to open turn-by-turn directions to that address in Google Maps
  • Written turn-by-turn Directions (when available), the ticket's Special Note, and any driver directions entered on the ticket
  • The item list (PLU, description, quantity)
  • Received by (signature) and Date / Time signature lines

The page opens the print dialog automatically. It covers deliveries in Scheduled, Ready, Loading, Loaded, Out for Delivery, and Delivered status for that date; if there are none you'll see "No deliveries scheduled for …".

Stores with a delivery schedule grid configured by VMX have a one-click Print button on each day's column. Any store can open the page directly at /pos/delivery/print-day.php?date=YYYY-MM-DD (for example …?date=2026-08-03). If this is something your team would use daily, contact help@vmxllc.com and we can add a button where it makes sense for you.

Some stores have a simpler Print Route Sheet option (a printer icon in the Deliveries Today heading): check off deliveries in the Deliveries Today or Deliveries On Hold sections and click it to print a compact sheet with each delivery's number, time, notes, and items, plus a blank Time line for the driver to fill in. This feature is enabled per-client by VMX — if you'd like it, contact help@vmxllc.com.
